A Historic Start for the Fiddleheads Lacrosse Club

Mar. 26, 2025

The Fiddleheads Lacrosse Club marked a historic moment in the revival of Senior Lacrosse in New Brunswick with a strong performance at the 2025 Chuck Baranowski Winter Classic in Montreal, Quebec. This year’s tournament brought together nine competitive teams, setting the stage for an exciting and highly anticipated event.

The Fiddleheads opened their tournament with a nail-biting 6-7 loss in a hard-fought match. Despite the narrow setback, the team showed resilience, coming back with fire and determination. In the final two games of the weekend, the Fiddleheads proved their mettle, securing a couple of victories to finish the tournament with a respectable 2-3 record.

The team’s performance was highlighted by standout performances, most notably from goaltender Matt McConnell. McConnell stole the show with a series of jaw-dropping saves that kept his team in every game, earning the respect of everybody in the arena. His athleticism and composure between the pipes were crucial in keeping the Fiddleheads competitive in every contest.

On the offensive side of the ball, Adam Gallop and Bryson Pruski formed a dynamic duo, combining for over 20 points in the team’s five games. Their offensive chemistry was on full display as they consistently found the back of the net, creating scoring opportunities and setting up plays to put their team in position for success.

Though the Fiddleheads ultimately finished with a 2-3 record, their performance at the Chuck Baranowski Winter Classic was a resounding success. It marked a promising beginning for the club and a bright future for Senior Lacrosse in New Brunswick.

As the team looks ahead, the Fiddleheads executive is hard at work, preparing to get the team back to training and continuing their upward momentum. Plans are already in motion for the team to host and compete in a Senior Tournament here in New Brunswick, as well as to take a trip to Nashville for competition in November 2025.

Fiddleheads Lacrosse Club President, Jack Boyle, expressed his pride in the team’s progress, stating, “We have a special group of guys on the executive who are really committed to making this thing something special. The amount of work everybody has put in so far to get this team off the ground is astonishing, and it’s only the beginning. We’re building something great here, and we’re excited for what’s to come.”

The group of 20 athletes who competed in the tournament came out of the weekend absolutely enthralled with how successful their start was. Player Austin Hirschfeld summed up the experience, saying, “That was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”

With a strong foundation and a growing presence in the lacrosse community, there’s no doubt that the Fiddleheads will be a force to be reckoned with in the seasons to come. The future of lacrosse in New Brunswick is certainly in good hands with the Fiddleheads leading the charge.
